My favorite part of ESOlogs so far is claiming all my characters and selecting their portraits.
Seriously, it felt like I was playing Baldur's Gate or something! My favorite part of ESOlogs... (2)
My favorite part of ESOlogs... (3)

In order to "claim" your characters you need to log them one at a time:

  • Delete your current log file
  • Log onto the character
  • Start combat logging (type "/encounterlog" into chat)
  • Kill anything, doesn't have to be in a dungeon/trial - leave combat
  • Stop combat logging (type "/encounterlog" again)
  • Upload the combat log - View Report - you should see this character appear under your profile almost immediately
  • Delete the log again, repeat process for next character.

They show up like this:
https://www.esologs.com/user/reports-list/425/
You can change each log from Public to Private or delete them individually.

Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

Ugh. That's a lot of work. You can still see public data if someone loads your group run and you have anonymous turned off, right?

Here's an example showing my character (by name) and several other "Anonymous" people.
    https://www.esologs.com/reports/d8jL9nhZQJ7R3qVB#fight=last&type=damage-done
It doesn't show their names, but obviously we can still pretty much surmise who is contributing the most to an encounter because it shows their class, abilities used, and dps/healing. It will be very easy to determine how good/bad someone is doing whether they're Anonymous or not. Only if you were actually involved in the fight, though, not just someone browsing the site.

IKR?! That's what people are always worried about. On the other hand, look at all the other categories across the top, there is a lot of information being captured here that you just don't get with other addons, and with a clean presentation. This will definitely help people improve.

Obviously any tool like this can be used with good or bad intent, but I've been using Warcraftlogs for years (same developer as ESOlogs) and I helped develop raid strats for my guild based upon what what we were seeing in event logs.

Huh, I'm curious, are 46 and 42 the same player? I wonder why it split up, but if it is I guess that also answers the question if players can be identified across multiple fights even if anonymous.

But that's not what I'm asking. I want to know if you can find your character data from other people's uploads, without going through the trouble of claiming 18 characters. Or will they always be anonymous until you both turn that off in game settings and also claim the character on the website?

Not directly, no. If I know your character name (and you were in not set anonymous and got logged by someone else) then I can search for you on the main page and find out your class and race, but as of yet I don't see any encounters you were involved in.

For example, there's this Trial parse that shows up on the main page:
    https://www.esologs.com/reports/KANd1kMbF3tBLRrH#fight=last&type=damage-done

However, I know who uploaded this log, but if I search for their character name (or the other character names shown on the above parse) there does not appear to be anything linking back to this or any other encounters they were involved in. I think this might be an oversight, though, because there is a data sheet appearing under any character's name where you would expect to see this - it's just not populating. (either that or I'm missing something regarding the filters/menus)

@Kihra what's the intended behavior in this regard?

Love how it even tells you their CP level so if you had any trouble figuring out which anonymous person was which, they made it even easier

To be fair, it's a totally inaccurate number. LOL! I don't understand where's it's pulling the information from, but my own character's CP is way off on the website. I assume everyone's is.

Is there no way to filter out "anonymous" data after it's uploaded, so that it's not actually published?

Way to go ZOS selling out your players’ data to a third party website, giving players no control over the use of their data.

Name and shaming here we come.

And that’s still naming and shaming, and it’s still bad so I am not sure what your point is.

My point is that this is an intrusive tool that ZOS has introduced which gives players no opportunity to prevent their performance being recorded and shipped off to a third party website without their consent.

It’s reassuring to know that ZOS is as haphazard in its treatment of its users’ data as it is in every other element of the game.

I agree that this is confusing. I tried to create a guild, and you have to download a tool to export your encounter.log file. And then you can make a guild.

Yeah, you need a third party tool from the sight to upload the log. Probably ZOS's way of getting around all the red tape of privacy. All they really did was allow the combat to be logged, they aren't actually giving it to a third party site, players are. I've played other games that didn't even allow you to be anonymous in such logs so I guess at least they gave us that, sort of

This was a bug on my end. It's fixed in v1.4.1 of the uploader app.

Were you able to "View Report"? It should have pulled up the website and shown your character by name and how much damage they did.

To clarify: the only thing I was suggesting be deleted is the combat log file in your ESO "Log" folder on your computer.
When you type /encounterlog you should see a brand new version of the file get created.

It's not working for me either, and I can't find this "anonymous" thing in settings.
Edit: It's under Combat. There second section called Encounter Log. I will try again and see if it works now.
Edit: no longer anonymous, but still no characters claimed.

Ok I see what happens. It doesn't come under reports or even View Report. It's part of your character/account settings, when you click on your name. It comes up in a side panel there.
